You can turn off your BinaryLane VPS from within its operating system.
mPanel has no Power Off button (the server's Overview page only offers Reboot and Power Cycle), so connect to the server as usual and shut it down from there. If you cannot connect over SSH or Remote Desktop, you can do the same from the Rescue Console on the Overview page, though you will still need to log in.
Billing: You will continue to be charged while the VPS is turned off because its resources remain allocated to you.
- Use your operating system's normal shutdown option or command to turn off the VPS.
- To turn it back on, log in to the BinaryLane mPanel, navigate to the server, and select Power Cycle.
The server should show as running in mPanel once it has powered back on.
An action failed because the server did not shut down
Some mPanel actions need the server to be off first: changing plan, rebooting, disk changes, network changes, password resets, and attaching or detaching a backup. If the server's operating system does not respond to the shutdown request, the action stops, nothing is changed, and mPanel shows one of these messages:
The server did not shut down in time. Shut the server down before trying again. The action was aborted while waiting for the server to shut down. Shut the server down before trying again.(this appears when Abort was chosen on the shutdown prompt)The server did not respond to the shutdown request. Shut it down from its operating system or power it off.- On older actions:
Failed to shutdown guest (timeout)
To complete the action:
- Shut the server down from inside its operating system, over SSH or Remote Desktop, or from the Rescue Console on the server's Overview page. If something inside the server is blocking shutdown, such as pending updates or a hung service, let it finish or stop it first.
- Wait until mPanel shows the server as stopped.
- Run the action again.
If the message came from a backup detach you did not start, it is the automatic detach of a backup attached to the server reaching its expiry. Shutting the server down and then starting it again with Power Cycle in mPanel lets the detach complete.
